
Getting Started
Create a New Canvas
Before creating the document you will want to know the dimensions of the canvas you will be working on.
On the homepage on the left-hand side, there is a button that says “Create New”. Click on this
In the pop-up screen, you can choose to either create your canvas from a preset or create a custom canvas
To create from a preset you will choose from a selection at the top from photo, web, mobile. Then in that category say you choose “photo” you can choose a size you want.
Create Custom Canvas
Name your Canvas
Decide the height and width and if the canvas is going to be in portrait or landscape
You can choose whether the canvas is going to be in pixels, centimeters, or inches from the drop-down
Change the resolution and decide whether you want the resolution in pixels per inch or pixels per centimeter in the drop-down
Choose the colour mode. You can choose Bitmap, Grayscale, RGB color, CMYK Color, or Lab color from the drop-down. As well as the range in bit from an 8, 16, and 32 from their dropdown.
There is an option to change the background. Choices are white, black, transparent, or custom.
In the advanced category, there is a color profile and pixel aspect ratio. These can also be changed from their dropdown.
Once you are satisfied with your canvas details you can click the create button on the bottom
Photoshop Guides
This is helpful in being able to align content correctly. However here you can change the colours and size of the grids and guidelines
To get here you want to go into Photoshop at the top of the screen.
Click on “Preferences”
Click on “General”
Click on “Guides, Grid, & slices”
Click “ok” to close
Change Background colour
On the bottom right there is a circle with half white and half black. click on this.
In the list that pops up you want to click on the option that says “solid color“
Once a color picker pops up you can choose any color you want or need for your specific project
Once you are happy with the result click the “ok“ button.
Eye dropper tool
This can be handy when you want to pick a colour rather quickly.
You can choose a photo to use for this or choose within your project.
On the left-hand side amongst the other tools there is a tool that looks like test tube
Click on this
You can then move the eye dropper around your image or project to get the right color
The colour will then replace either the foreground colour or the background colour. These are also placed on the left. If you click on either the foreground colour or background colour there will be a colour pick that pops up as well. Once you get the colour you want you can click the “ok” button
